Trauma/EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy works by connecting the intellectual and emotional processing areas of the brain, allowing individuals to reprocess traumatic memories and integrate them into their narrative in a new, less distressing way. During an EMDR therapy session, the individual attends to a disturbing memory or trigger while focusing on bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, hand taps, or tones. This process helps the brain reconsolidate the traumatic memory, reducing its negative impact and promoting healing. By strengthening positive thoughts and beliefs, EMDR therapy empowers individuals to overcome the lingering effects of traumatic experiences and regain control over their lives.

What Does EMDR help address?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)  |  Anxiety  |  Depression  |  Phobias  |  Childhood Traumas  |  Traumatic memories  |  Grief and Loss  |

Panic Disorders  |  Separation Anxiety  |  Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)  |  Feelings of insecurity and self-esteem issues

EMDR therapy targets the root causes of these conditions, helping individuals alleviate symptoms, reduce distress, and improve their overall quality of life.

Is EMDR for me?

  • Free yourself from the thoughts and emotions that restrict you.

  • Reducing the overwhelming symptoms of trauma and PTSD, including intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and flashbacks.

  • Freeing yourself from past experiences that have made you feel trapped

  • Build resilience as your brain learns to calm and soothe itself.

  • Restoring the essential connections between your brain, body, and emotions can leave you feeling more balanced and connected.

  • Manage traumatic memories in a healthier, less distressing way.

  • Over time, you will feel more grounded and centered, equipped with new strategies for managing your emotions and regaining control.

How Does EMDR Work?

  • In the initial session, we review past events, current concerns, and future needs and identify target events for processing.

  • Learn EMDR techniques to assist when feeling difficult emotions. Teach coping, stabilization, and regulation skills.

  • Identify components of the “target,” such as emotions, beliefs, associated negative cognition, and somatic sensations associated with memory.

  • Incorporate bilateral simulation to support desensitization, installation, and body scans. To clear unwanted distress from painful memories or upsetting events.

EMDR therapy is a powerful, evidence-based treatment approach that helps individuals heal from traumatic experiences and manage related mental health concerns.

EMDR Might not be the best fit if you are:

  • Having active thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

  • Experiencing a crisis or an emergency that needs immediate assistance.

  • Managing significant levels of dissociation, such as derealization or depersonalization.

If you find yourself in any of the situations described above, it doesn’t indicate that EMDR is unsuitable for you—it simply might not be the right option currently. We will explore your therapy goals and pinpoint the most effective short-term and long-term treatments customized for you. Once you feel more stable and are no longer in crisis phase, we can concentrate on building resources and skills to prepare you for EMDR and ensure it becomes a safe and effectively in your healing process.

WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT?

That's completely fine! The good news is that revealing every detail about painful memories or upsetting events isn't necessary for healing. We can collaborate to establish the best starting point and figure out the process. I will purposefully customize our approach to align with your specific needs, creating a supportive space for you to explore deeper and heal.
